The series
A Television Documentary Vignette Series, Inspired by HOMAGE. Victory by Valor hosts a select group of American pop-culture sports heroes who also wore the uniform of the United States: Jackie Robinson, Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, Willie Mays, Arthur Ashe and David Robinson. It shows them in athletic pose and in service, on a timeline from American independence in 1776 to the present day — the fight for the right to fight, the Double Victory campaign, and the campaign phrase that runs through all of it: freedom isn’t free.
The H.E.R.O. Project — Higher Education Resiliency Operation — takes the series into schools through student assembly screenings, Did-You-Know vignettes, JROTC programming, a panel on what makes a hero, a curriculum for educators and a speaker’s bureau.
