About this film
A one-minute Did-You-Know vignette. Narration: Jackie Robinson was drafted in the Second World War and became one of the first African Americans accepted into Officer Candidate School — a protest led by Joe Louis helped make the case. On 6 July 1944, eleven years before Rosa Parks, he refused to move to the back of a segregated military bus, was arrested and court-martialed, and acquitted; honorably discharged later that year without seeing combat, he met Ted Alexander, wrote to Tom Baird of the Kansas City Monarchs, and was invited to spring training.
